The Design Engineer will support engineering and design solutions for medical device products manufactured at high volumes. Working under senior engineering guidance, they will provide innovative solutions for new and existing products through methodical design refinements, systematic risk mitigation using foundational engineering principles, comprehensive technical evaluations, failure mode analyses, and rigorous design verification. The engineer will integrate BD's structured Global Product Development System and implement advanced design methodologies to deliver superior, resilient, and economically efficient product designs while collaborating across organizational functions to execute comprehensive product development strategies and ensure seamless manufacturing transition. Responsibilities include: • Engage comprehensively in product development lifecycle; coordinate, deliver, plan, and communicate research and development milestones while maintaining collaborative interdepartmental relationships with Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing Technology, and Operations teams. • Generate design solutions aligned with customer requirements, verifying specifications for product systems, subsystems, interfaces, and components while maintaining comprehensive development process traceability. • Develop design solutions optimizing product characteristics, material selections, feature implementations, process designs, and human factor considerations. • Conduct systematic design analyses utilizing robust engineering principles to ensure optimal alignment with product and organizational objectives. • Execute Design for Six Sigma methodologies throughout design selection, optimization, and development processes, leveraging empirical, statistical, and analytical tools to enhance design decision-making, evaluate trade-offs, improve robustness, and minimize design iterations and cycle times. • Integrate comprehensive Design for Excellence considerations including manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and safety protocols. • Provide technical leadership for product design aspects across developmental and commercial platforms throughout their entire lifecycle, resolving technical challenges through systematic problem-solving methodologies and engineering principles. • Cultivate advanced subject matter expertise, remaining current with technological innovations and material advancements, conducting industry landscape research from intellectual property, regulatory, product, and technological perspectives, and participating in technical review processes. • Maintain strict adherence to medical device design control protocols, ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, international, and internal safety regulations, policies, and procedures. • Prepare detailed technical documentation capturing design verification analyses, testing outcomes, design modifications, and product design activities. • Develop and implement sophisticated test methodologies specifying measurement equipment, test configurations, measurement system analyses, and comprehensive data interpretation strategies.
