Cognizant is hiring a Data Governance Analyst

About the Role

Cognizant is looking for a Data Governance Analyst to support Pearson OCTO Data Governance by documenting, standardizing, and publishing trusted metadata. In this role, you will ensure enterprise datasets in the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and Snowflake are discoverable, understood, and used safely by creating and maintaining high-quality documentation primarily within the Collibra platform.

What You'll Do

  • Create, edit, and curate Collibra assets for EDW and Snowflake datasets, including required attributes, relationships, and ownership assignments.
  • Develop and maintain clear dataset documentation (business meaning, technical context, examples, notes) through Collibra’s governance workflows.
  • Identify existing documentation in Confluence/SharePoint, translate it for Collibra, reconcile discrepancies, and retire or reference outdated sources.
  • Organize and enrich Collibra content so analysts, product teams, and business users can quickly find trusted datasets and understand their use.
  • Facilitate working sessions with SMEs (data engineers, analysts, product, finance, sales ops) to capture institutional knowledge, validate definitions, and confirm ownership.
  • Partner with governance and risk stakeholders to ensure sensitive elements like PII/PHI/PCI are correctly identified and documented in Collibra.
  • Translate technical column and table terminology into business terms; create and link glossary terms to ensure consistent definitions.
  • Capture known data quality issues, monitoring signals, and recommended remediation or escalation paths; link to tickets or runbooks where applicable.
  • Apply agreed Collibra naming conventions, templates, and required fields; recommend improvements when gaps are found.
  • Propose ways to streamline documentation and stewardship in Collibra, including templates, checklists, bulk-load approaches, and integration with ingestion/SDLC processes.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience in data stewardship, data governance, analytics enablement, metadata management, or data product documentation.
  • Excellent writing and information design skills, with the ability to turn complex technical concepts into clear, usable documentation.
  • Working knowledge of data warehousing concepts, including tables/views, facts/dimensions, ETL/ELT, refresh cadence, and common data quality issues.
  • Ability to read and write SQL at a level sufficient to explore datasets, validate definitions, and identify anomalies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across technical and business teams and drive work to closure from intake through draft, review, and publish.
  • High attention to detail and comfort working across many datasets, domains, and stakeholders.

Technical Stack

  • Collibra
  • Snowflake
  • Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and associated semantic/reporting layers
  • Confluence/SharePoint
  • SQL and query tools (Snowflake Worksheets, DBeaver, etc.)
  • Issue/work tracking (e.g., Jira) and collaboration tools (Teams)

Benefits & Compensation

  • Compensation: $80,000 - $135,000 USD
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance
  • Paid holidays plus Paid Time Off
  • 401(k) plan and contributions
