About the Role

Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors is hiring a Data Engineer to join a high-impact team building foundational data systems that power analytics and operational efficiency. You will architect, develop, and optimize modern data pipelines using cutting-edge tools to enable fast, reliable access to critical business insights. This strategic role offers visibility across teams and the chance to shape internal data infrastructure.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines using modern tooling, including dbt.
  • Establish and uphold standards to ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability throughout the internal data ecosystem.
  • Optimize data performance, reduce compute costs, and ensure low-latency access to key datasets.
  • Continuously improve existing infrastructure by identifying and addressing technical debt and performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to gather data requirements and deliver reliable solutions.
  • Automate workflows to increase data freshness, streamline lineage tracking, and enhance monitoring capabilities.
  • Provide valuable product feedback by actively testing and applying the company’s own infrastructure and AI tools internally.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in data engineering.
  • At least 4 years total in software engineering-related roles.
  • Strong expertise in SQL and Python.
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
  • Demonstrated ability to act with urgency, focus, and effective prioritization.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Additional experience in at least one of Scala, Java, or Rust.
  • Experience developing and scaling dbt projects.
  • Experience working in high-growth tech or SaaS environments.
  • Experience using open table formats like Apache Iceberg.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Standard salary range: $118,000–$143,100. Range in select cities (e.g., Boston, NYC, SF, Seattle): $131,000–$159,000.
