Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors is hiring a Data Engineer to join a high-impact team building foundational data systems that power analytics and operational efficiency. You will architect, develop, and optimize modern data pipelines using cutting-edge tools to enable fast, reliable access to critical business insights. This strategic role offers visibility across teams and the chance to shape internal data infrastructure.

What You'll Do

Design, build, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines using modern tooling, including dbt.
Establish and uphold standards to ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability throughout the internal data ecosystem.
Optimize data performance, reduce compute costs, and ensure low-latency access to key datasets.
Continuously improve existing infrastructure by identifying and addressing technical debt and performance bottlenecks.
Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to gather data requirements and deliver reliable solutions.
Automate workflows to increase data freshness, streamline lineage tracking, and enhance monitoring capabilities.
Provide valuable product feedback by actively testing and applying the company’s own infrastructure and AI tools internally.

What We're Looking For

2+ years of experience in data engineering.
At least 4 years total in software engineering-related roles.
Strong expertise in SQL and Python.
Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
Demonstrated ability to act with urgency, focus, and effective prioritization.
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

Additional experience in at least one of Scala, Java, or Rust.
Experience developing and scaling dbt projects.
Experience working in high-growth tech or SaaS environments.
Experience using open table formats like Apache Iceberg.

Benefits & Compensation

Standard salary range: $118,000–$143,100. Range in select cities (e.g., Boston, NYC, SF, Seattle): $131,000–$159,000.
