Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors is hiring a Data Engineer to join a high-impact team building foundational data systems that power analytics and operational efficiency. You will architect, develop, and optimize modern data pipelines using cutting-edge tools to enable fast, reliable access to critical business insights. This strategic role offers visibility across teams and the chance to shape internal data infrastructure.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines using modern tooling, including dbt.
- Establish and uphold standards to ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability throughout the internal data ecosystem.
- Optimize data performance, reduce compute costs, and ensure low-latency access to key datasets.
- Continuously improve existing infrastructure by identifying and addressing technical debt and performance bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to gather data requirements and deliver reliable solutions.
- Automate workflows to increase data freshness, streamline lineage tracking, and enhance monitoring capabilities.
- Provide valuable product feedback by actively testing and applying the company’s own infrastructure and AI tools internally.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in data engineering.
- At least 4 years total in software engineering-related roles.
- Strong expertise in SQL and Python.
- Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
- Demonstrated ability to act with urgency, focus, and effective prioritization.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
- Additional experience in at least one of Scala, Java, or Rust.
- Experience developing and scaling dbt projects.
- Experience working in high-growth tech or SaaS environments.
- Experience using open table formats like Apache Iceberg.

- Standard salary range: $118,000–$143,100. Range in select cities (e.g., Boston, NYC, SF, Seattle): $131,000–$159,000.
