About the Role

GE Vernova is hiring a Lead Customer Substation Application Engineer to drive our technical and business strategy during the critical Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) phase. You will act as the technological lead, leveraging your expertise to craft winning solutions for complex substation and power projects.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary technical expert during the entire Inquiry-to-Order phase, developing solutions during the pre-ITO process.
  • Deliver high-quality technical proposals that are competitive and effective.
  • Ensure proposal accuracy, including technical specifications, clarifications, cost allocation, and bill of materials.
  • Perform necessary studies to verify the specification and design of proposed solutions.
  • Create technical bid packages for subcontractors and power equipment.
  • Support the commercial team in customer presentations of technical capabilities.
  • Design and implement methodologies and templates for accurate, efficient cost estimating.
  • Write technical specifications and manage vendor quotes and responses.
  • Collaborate with the Proposal Manager and engineering team to provide full Engineer, Procure, & Construct estimates.
  • Apply market and customer understanding to inform winning bid strategies.
  • Exercise judgment to solve moderately complex technical and operational problems.
  • Build consensus and influence others within the organization.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in substation/electrical design, studies, specifications, estimating, and construction within the power generation/distribution/transmission industry.
  • Minimum 2 years of technical proposal writing and management experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%, which may include international trips.
  • Eligibility to work in the USA.
  • Offer is conditional on a successful background check.

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing proposals for large, complex Substation Projects.
  • Experience with full turnkey Substation solutions, EPC, EPCI, including Civil works.
  • Passion to win and ability to develop technical strategy based on customer needs.
  • Basic expertise in the design of Power Transmission & Distribution equipment, substations, and protection devices.
  • Experience with engineering design packages, including drawings, calculations, studies, and bills of materials.
  • Experience with power system studies and the application of MV/HV/EHV/UHV gear.
  • Knowledge of project estimating methods and cost engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of HV/EHV substation physical design, construction, foundation design, and site preparation.
  • Knowledge of substation protection & control schemes, SCADA communication systems, testing, and commissioning.
  • Construction, field testing, and commissioning experience.
  • Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
  • Working knowledge of power systems automation, SCADA, and communication applications.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States or Canada.

  • For U.S.-based candidates, the pay range is $98,400.00 to $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
