The Virginia Department of Taxation is seeking multiple service-oriented professionals to work as Customer Service Generalists at our Woodstock Customer Service Center. In this role, you will be the face of the DMV, providing direct customer service, processing applications, and administering tests.
What You'll Do
- Communicate policies, procedures, and regulations to customers.
- Issue identification documents.
- Process applications for various DMV services.
- Administer vision, driver knowledge, and in-car road tests.
- Process diverse vehicle registrations, titling, tax and fee collection, and other related services.
What We're Looking For
- Proven ability to provide professional, courteous, face-to-face customer service.
- Proficiency in operating computer systems, databases, and equipment necessary for DMV operations.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles, including transaction reconciliations.
- Ability to interpret, explain, and apply complex statutes like the Virginia Motor Vehicle Code.
- Adaptability to frequent changes in statutes, policies, and procedures.
- Strong analytical skills to review records and documents to reach legal conclusions.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure during peak workload periods.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with effective communication for diverse customers and colleagues.
- Ability to complete required training and perform work tasks across various assigned workstations.
- Operational proficiency with all necessary tools and equipment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with fewer than 6 demerit points.
- Must be 21 years of age and maintain instructor certification for administering road tests.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of DMV policies related to licensing, registration, titling, and the Privacy Protection Act.
- Familiarity with public sector operations and state agency procedures.
- Previous experience mentoring or training staff in a professional environment.
- Previous experience with DMV operations or a similar regulatory agency.
- Comprehensive experience mentoring or guiding team members.
Benefits & Compensation
- Competitive salary starting at $41,000; prior relevant DMV experience may increase salary up to $43,000.
