Norfolk State University is seeking an experienced academic leader for the role of Chair/Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Psychology. This position provides strategic leadership and vision for the department, managing its operations while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture. The Chair will also instruct psychology courses with release time allocated based on departmental need.
What You'll Do
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the department
- Foster faculty development through mentoring and support research excellence
- Coordinate and serve on various departmental and college committees
- Guide and promote academic programming
- Assign and manage various departmental committees (e.g., curriculum, assessment)
- Manage departmental budgeting, staffing, and resources with transparency and accountability
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive departmental culture as well as interdisciplinary collaboration within the university and with external partners
- Represent the department effectively within the college and university
- Instruct psychology courses with release time per semester based on departmental need and expertise
What We're Looking For
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology
- Academic credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate/Full Professor
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic settings (e.g., program director, associate chair or committee chair)
- Strong record of research, teaching, and service
