Mercury is looking for a Backend Engineering Intern for Fall 2026. You'll join a team building a product used by over 100,000 businesses, where you will receive mentorship from experienced engineers and make meaningful contributions to our backend systems.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with data analysts to spec and build features that draw new customers to our product.
- Provide a backend to our mobile and web frontends for tasks like searching transactions or sending wire transfers.
- Build admin tools to increase the efficiency of day-to-day support operations, like identifying fraudulent customers or managing accounts.
- Integrate with third-party APIs to perform tasks such as sending checks or validating SWIFT codes.
What We're Looking For

- Strong communication skills and the ability to write clear explanations of your technical decision-making.
- Experience using the Haskell programming language, or a strong desire to learn it.

Benefits & Compensation
- Hourly rate for US candidates: $55.
- Hourly rate for Canada candidates: CAD 55.
Work Mode
This is a remote position. Candidates must be located in San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; Portland, OR; or be remote within Canada or the United States.
