Whatnot is hiring a Backend Engineer for the Seller Growth Platform pod. You will be responsible for designing and building the critical systems at the heart of our new seller funnel. Your focus will be on protecting the funnel from fraud, balancing growth with trust and safety, building platform intelligence, creating scalable infrastructure, and driving long-term seller success.

What You'll Do

Protect the funnel from fraud and abuse by developing and scaling systems for identity verification, fraud detection, and automated trust/risk reviews.
Balance growth with trust and safety to ensure new sellers can sell successfully without degrading buyer experience and prevent bad actors.
Build platform intelligence to power accurate seller identification for routing sellers to the right onboarding, incentive, and discovery paths.
Create scalable infrastructure by partnering with Data Science and Trust teams to design reusable trust and reputation systems and modular fraud prevention frameworks.
Drive long-term seller success by enabling better bucketing of sellers by value and risk profile.

What We're Looking For

5+ years of software engineering experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
Experience building scalable systems.
Ability to work across the stack (backend and frontend).
Excellent product instincts.
Proven track record of delivering features.
Ability to take ownership of an ambiguous area, define it, and then drive impact.
Ability to flexibly work across multiple workstreams, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of data and growth systems like notifications.
Scalability and data pipeline experience with SQL, dbt, etc.
