What You'll Do
Design, build, and maintain backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and aligned with technical and product goals. You'll take full ownership of your services, from initial design through deployment and ongoing support.
Integrate third-party systems into existing architectures and implement APIs that power core application functionality. Use AI-powered development tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex daily to assist with coding, debugging, refactoring, and documentation—while maintaining high standards for code quality and system reliability.
Collaborate proactively with remote engineers in an asynchronous environment, sharing updates, identifying blockers early, and contributing to team-wide problem solving. You'll be expected to operate independently, manage your workload, and anticipate challenges before they arise.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience building and launching a large-scale backend system from the ground up
- Minimum of five years of backend development experience, with at least two focused on Node.js
- Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex in real-world projects
- Proven ability to integrate external services into complex system architectures
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with comfort working in a remote, asynchronous setting
- A self-directed approach: you identify issues, raise them proactively, and drive solutions without waiting for direction
- Experience working independently in an operational role, balancing multiple priorities and technical demands
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with serverless platforms such as Firestore Cloud Functions or AWS Lambda
- Background working with microservices architectures
- Prior work at a custom software development firm or similar project-based environment
Technical Stack
Node.js, TypeScript, AI development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex), Firestore Cloud Functions, AWS Lambda, Microservices
Benefits
- Work from anywhere in the world
- Eligibility for an annual performance bonus
- Opportunity to collaborate with a globally distributed, high-performing engineering team
Work Mode
This is a fully remote role open to candidates worldwide. You must be able to overlap with Central Time Zone by at least two hours each day and attend recurring video meetings scheduled within that window.
Culture
We value autonomy, initiative, and ownership. Our team operates on a 'Manager of One' principle—individuals set their own direction, spot what needs to be done, and take action without waiting for approval. Proactive communication and purposeful work are central to how we operate. Culture is not an afterthought; it's foundational to our long-term success.
