Happening is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will design and implement scalable software solutions for a large-scale sports betting operator, directly impacting user experiences from registration and payments to sports gaming and player retention. You'll operate within our collaborative Tribes and Squads model, working across multiple product teams.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to design and implement scalable and robust software solutions.
- Lead initiatives and tasks and drive them to completion.
- Enhance the existing platform to increase the amount of business functionality driven by end-user configuration.
- Enhance system automation for scale, resiliency, and deployment.
- Maintain, enhance and create common platform components and libraries.
- Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders from the wider organization to understand and drive requirements and improvements across the platform.
- Build on our CloudNative platform, enabling more use of AWS technology to aid in speeding up delivery, scale, and resiliency.
- Build on our observability tooling and infrastructure to better understand the capabilities of our systems.
- Grow the engineering community, building on the existing process and practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team productivity and efficiency.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a large-scale production environment.
- Experience engineering high-quality, highly scalable software in any object-oriented or Functional language.
- A willingness to learn new technologies.
- A talent for clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing, and continuous deployment.
- A passion for working in the cloud and automation.
- Experience working with distributed and event-driven systems.
- Experience building and improving upon observability.
- A passion for creating user-centric, data-driven solutions.
Nice to Have
- Experience in AWS (Cloudformation, MSK, S3, Cognito, etc.).
- An interest in Functional Programming.
- Knowledge of Kafka.
- Front-end development experience in React or Vue.js.
