Technical Assent is hiring an Associate Service Designer

This is an entry-level position focused on assisting with research and service design efforts across federal consulting initiatives. The individual will collaborate with seasoned designers to conduct user research, interpret findings, and help develop service design outputs aimed at enhancing public sector services. The role is remote with anticipated travel for fieldwork and workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing and carrying out user research methods such as interviews, focus groups, surveys, and observational studies
  • Help record and interpret research data to identify meaningful insights
  • Support the application of AI-powered tools for research analysis and synthesis
  • Contribute to the development of service design outputs including customer journey maps
  • Contribute to the development of service design outputs including service blueprints
  • Contribute to the development of service design outputs including personas
  • Contribute to the development of service design outputs including research reports
  • Contribute to the development of service design outputs including presentation materials
  • Collaborate with service designers, product teams, and analysts to support project outcomes
  • Take part in design workshops and joint creation sessions with stakeholders
  • Help develop research plans, design documentation, and related materials
  • Work alongside senior designers to build expertise in research methodologies, service design frameworks, and facilitation
  • Engage in internal learning initiatives and practice development activities
  • Develop client-facing materials from initial concept through final presentation
  • Coordinate with project leadership on project direction and progress updates
  • Work effectively in team settings, valuing diverse input and collaborative problem-solving
  • Remain adaptable as project goals and scope shift over time
  • Identify and communicate potential risks to Team Leads
  • Apply strong critical thinking to balance strategic vision with delivery focus
  • Act independently with attention to detail, initiative in completing tasks, and openness to giving and receiving feedback
  • Demonstrate clear and effective written and verbal communication skills

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1 to 3 years of professional experience in service design, UX design, customer experience, research, or related areas
  • Proven interest in human-centered design and service innovation
  • Strong analytical and communication abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Curious and open-minded mindset
  • Comfortable operating in a continuous Build-Measure-Learn feedback loop
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or equivalent federal security clearance

Nice to Have

  • Internship or academic background in design research or service design
  • Familiarity with human-centered design practices
  • Experience using design or collaboration software tools
