About the Role

Western Sydney University is hiring an Associate Professor in Environmental Futures for the Institute for Culture and Society. In this role, you will lead impactful interdisciplinary research that shapes environmental and societal futures, delivering field-leading work that engages with communities, industry partners, and policymakers.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct original research contributing to major bids and Category 2 and 3 funding.
  • Lead and shape research across areas such as environmental histories and futures, climate action, social and ecological transitions, and environmental justice.
  • Engage with one or more ICS Research Programs, including Automated Worlds, Environment and Technology, Borders and Migration, Queer Cultures, and Urban Futures.
  • Supervise higher degree research students and mentor early career researchers.
  • Contribute to curriculum development across relevant Faculties.
  • Build academic partnerships and provide leadership within the Institute.
  • Represent the Institute in public and scholarly forums.
  • Create opportunities for collaboration across government, industry, and community sectors.
  • Deliver original, high-quality research outputs and contribute to major competitive grant submissions.
  • Lead and manage research projects, including financial oversight and collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Attract, supervise, and mentor higher degree research students toward timely completion.
  • Build strong external partnerships and contribute to public and academic engagement.

What We're Looking For

  • A completed PhD in a relevant discipline, such as environmental humanities, geography, sociology, or science and technology studies.
  • Demonstrated research leadership, with a strong interdisciplinary publication record and engagement across academic, policy, and community sectors.
  • Experience in securing research income and fostering productive collaborations with industry, government, and funding bodies.
  • Proven capacity to supervise higher degree research students and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in team-based research environments.

You will be joining the Institute for Culture and Society, reporting to the Interim Director, Institute for Culture & Society.

Working within the Product Directorate, you’ll partner with academic and operational teams to ensure our platforms and products align with College strategy and deliver outstanding learning outcomes.As the Manager, Online Learning Environment, you will:* Lead and develop a team of Online Learning Environment Designers to deliver high‑quality learning content * Manage the build, administration and maintenance of diverse LMS environments and associated platforms * Integrate digital learning objects, multimedia and emerging technologies while ensuring quality and technical compliance * Foster a culture of innovation, agility and continuous improvement within the team * Provide expert guidance on LMS processes, learning technologies and best‑practice design approaches * Champion system enhancements that uplift the student experience * Identify, test and evaluate new tools and manage relationships with external vendors * Collaborate across The College to support strategic planning and deliver seamless digital learning experiences This is a full-time 35 hours per week, ongoing position.For further information, please refer to the Position Description linked here: Manager, Online Learning Environment.Who We’re Looking For: You are an experienced and innovative digital learning professional who brings:* Postgraduate qualifications (or equivalent experience) in online learning, educational technology or digital product management * Strong technical expertise with enterprise Learning Management Systems and content management tools (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, SharePoint, Articulate, H5P, Adobe and Microsoft platforms) * Confidence in adopting and implementing new technologies, with the ability to solve problems and deliver improvements within established timelines * Excellent relationship‑building and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders * Proven leadership capability, with a talent for motivating high‑performing, agile teams * The ability to interpret learning design requirements and translate them into effective, high‑quality digital learning builds * Exceptional attention to detail, with a track record of identifying issues early and delivering practical, high‑quality solutions Why Join us?
