About the Role

Penn State is hiring a tenure-line faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Materials Science and Engineering. The role focuses on advancing research in electroceramic materials processing. You will join a collaborative department within the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.

What You'll Do

  • Develop an internationally recognized, externally funded research program.
  • Teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Contribute to service within the university and the profession.
  • Advance interdisciplinary research and serve as a collaborative leader who drives innovation and excellence (for Associate Professor).

What We're Looking For

  • Ph.D. in materials science and engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • For Assistant Professor: Strong potential for developing an externally funded experimental or computational research program that strengthens MatSE’s core interdisciplinary research areas.
  • For Assistant Professor: Demonstrated interest in and ability to educate and mentor students, advise graduate students, teach courses across MatSE undergraduate and graduate programs, and contribute service to the Department, College, and University.

Nice to Have

  • Research focuses on the processing of electroceramic materials and can complement or expand upon existing departmental strengths.
  • For Associate Professor: Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring, a strong research and publication track record, and an established reputation in scholarly or professional achievement.

Team & Environment

You will join a department of 33 faculty members, 155 graduate students, and 176 undergraduate students within the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.
