Washington University in St. Louis seeks an Application Developer III to join WashU IT. In this role, you will provide advanced support for cost-effective research IT solutions by updating, modifying, and supporting the existing myIRB software application. You will work closely with the Human Research Protection Office to undertake complex projects requiring specialized technical knowledge and innovative thinking.
What You'll Do
- Support the Java-based myIRB application in close coordination with WashU IT and HRPO teams.
- Conduct workflow study and business practice analysis, documenting existing processes as they relate to IT solutions.
- Perform application lifecycle activities: code, monitor, maintain, test, and debug software; follow established change management processes; facilitate code reviews; develop and execute test plans.
- Research and evaluate new technologies, specialized hardware, and tools to optimize application development and functionality, making recommendations to management.
- Provide support for complex operational activities and recoveries; coordinate with software vendors and external service providers; troubleshoot escalated software bugs.
- Provide off-hours support as needed.
- Provide strong leadership, foster excellent customer service, enforce adherence to standards, and guide less experienced staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience substituting for the minimum education.
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Java, JavaScript, Java Servlets, Unix, and Java web development.
- Familiarity with human resources (HR) software systems and higher education technology.
- Skills in technical analysis, problem-solving, researching new technologies, and implementing technical solutions.
- Aptitude for application development, data management, and using software development tools.
- Ability in cross-functional work, team collaboration, and working independently.
- A focus on customer satisfaction, service, continual improvement, and adaptability.

- Compensation Range: $75,200.00 - $128,800.00 annually.
