SearchApi is hiring an Anti-Bot Engineer to focus on breaking through anti-bot systems like Cloudflare, Akamai, DataDome, and PerimeterX. You will research evasion techniques, reverse engineer bot detection, and tackle the most demanding technical challenges in web scraping for our lean, profitable, and bootstrapped team.
What You'll Do
- Research and implement anti-bot evasion techniques.
- Reverse engineer bot detection systems to understand and bypass them.
- Work with browser fingerprinting across canvas, WebGL, audio, fonts, and navigator properties.
- Debug TLS fingerprinting, including JA3 and JA4.
- Optimize Playwright and Puppeteer configurations for stealth.
- Analyze network traffic to understand detection mechanisms.
- Build internal tools for testing and validating evasion techniques.
- Stay ahead of the latest developments in bot detection.
- Document findings and share knowledge with the team.
- Define your own work based on what's broken, what's getting detected, and new opportunities.
What We're Looking For
- An obsession with evasion and bypassing protections.
- A hacker mindset with enjoyment of reverse engineering.
- Deep technical skills in browser internals, networking, and fingerprinting.
- Persistent attitude when facing difficult problems.
- Ability to document findings clearly as a great writer.
- Self-directed nature and ability to work without assigned tasks.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- A BSc or higher in Computer Science or an equivalent technical field.
- Deep experience with the internals of Playwright, Puppeteer, or Selenium.
- Understanding of browser fingerprinting techniques and how to spoof them.
- Proven experience bypassing at least one major anti-bot system.
- Network traffic analysis experience with tools like Wireshark or Burp Suite.
Nice to Have
- Specific TLS fingerprinting experience (JA3, JA4, HTTP/2).
- WebRTC fingerprinting and evasion knowledge.
- Familiarity with Chromium or Firefox source code.
- Experience operating at scale handling millions of requests.
- Contributions to open-source evasion tools.
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails.
