The State of Louisiana is looking for an Adult Education Instructor to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential instruction in English Language Arts, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics to adult students working towards a Louisiana High School Equivalency Diploma or strengthening core academic skills. You will be a key player in helping students achieve their educational goals while ensuring our program meets important performance outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Develop, plan, and deliver multi-level instruction in English Language Arts, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics.
- Teach algebraic reasoning, informational text analysis, and extended response writing aligned to high school equivalency standards.
- Employ diverse instructional strategies including whole-group, small-group, individualized, and computer-assisted instruction.
- Contextualize instruction to support workforce and career pathway preparation.
- Evaluate student progress using formative and summative assessments, including administering TABE and HiSET Official Practice Tests.
- Interpret assessment data to determine instructional needs and student readiness for official testing.
- Maintain accurate and timely student attendance and progress records for institutional and grant reporting.
- Uphold instructional practices that support program benchmarks for skill gains, persistence, and credential attainment.
- Conduct individual advising sessions to support academic and transition planning.
- Provide timely feedback on performance and make referrals to internal and external support services.
- Participate in enrollment sessions, assessment processes, and collaborate with College Transition Programs staff.
- Provide regular evening instruction on BPCC’s Bossier campus from 5:30pm to 8:00pm.
- Provide weekend instruction (Saturday only, up to two per month) from 9:00 am to 12:00pm.
- Provide instruction at off-campus community partner locations, including local correctional facilities, as assigned.
- Participate in required professional development, departmental meetings, and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, College Transition Programs.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor’s degree is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience at the high school level or above.
- Demonstrated ability to independently teach English Language Arts, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic setting.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Nice to Have
- A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience with adult learners.
- Experience in and understanding of working with adult students from diverse populations.
Team & Environment
You will report directly to the Director, College Transition Programs and collaborate closely with staff to ensure coordinated student support services.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position located in Bossier City, LA. The role requires evening and weekend instruction at the main campus and off-site locations as assigned.
