Aretum is seeking an experienced Accessibility Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis and lead the charge in making our digital products accessible to all users. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing accessibility standards and guidelines that align with WCAG and Section 508 compliance.
What You'll Do
- Conduct manual accessibility testing using the government web tool ANDI.
- Perform automated accessibility testing (e.g., WAVE, axe DevTools) and screen reader compatibility checks, including JAWS and NVDA for Windows and built-ins like Narrator and VoiceOver.
- Collaborate with designers and developers to integrate accessibility best practices into designs from the start.
- Provide remediation recommendations and ensure WCAG and 508 compliance for all applications.
- Produce detailed testing reporting and documentation with qualifications, methodologies, and outcomes.
- Participate in sprint reviews and validate acceptance criteria.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including UI/UX designers and developers, to ensure accessibility is integrated into all stages of the design and development processes.
- Conduct accessibility audits, provide recommendations for improvement, and deliver training sessions to staff on best practices for inclusive design.
- Support proposal efforts as needed, including resume formatting, providing skills alignment summaries, participating in meetings, or contributing to solutioning activities.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 4+ years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency with tools like axe DevTools, WAVE, ANDI, and screen readers (JAWS, NVDA).
- Experience in agile environments and user-centered design teams.
- Knowledge of WCAG, Section 508, and inclusive design principles.
Nice to Have
- Trusted Tester Certification.
