West Tech Shipping is seeking a versatile L2 Software Engineer to maintain and enhance a large, evolving codebase across multiple technologies. The ideal candidate is a fast learner who can contribute across the stack and adapt to new systems in a remote environment.
What You'll Do
- Writing, maintaining, and optimizing code in PHP/WordPress, which powers the core application
- Customizing WordPress plugins to improve functionality
- Developing and maintaining APIs that connect mobile and web applications
- Working on React Native (Expo) for the customer-facing mobile app
- Contributing to the Next.js customer-facing website
- Debugging and resolving issues across the stack to ensure smooth operations
- Learning and adapting quickly to new technologies as the system evolves
What We're Looking For
- Strong programming skills in PHP, WordPress, JavaScript, React Native, and MySQL
- Willingness to learn technologies not already known
- Experience working with custom PHP scripts and WordPress integrations
- 2–3 years of experience in software development
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate a large and complex codebase
- Experience or strong interest in using AI tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to improve system functionality
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a remote environment
Nice to Have
- Experience with PHP/WordPress for development of the core system
- Experience working with React for web development
- Minimum of 2 years of professional software development experience (2–3 years preferred)
- Knowledge of logistics, e-commerce, or similar industries
- Experience optimizing and scaling database systems
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
