Responsibilities
- Design, integrate, and maintain high-voltage SCADA and operational technology systems for electrical networks ranging from 600V to 230KV to ensure uninterrupted and secure mission-critical operations.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot SEL relays, RTACs, PLCs, HMIs, Ignition, and OSI SCADA platforms using industrial protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, OPC UA, and mirrored bits.
- Analyze real-time and historical operational data to detect system trends, diagnose faults, enhance performance, and implement improvements to system reliability and resilience.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, firmware updates, software patching, relay testing, calibration validation, and Omicron acceptance testing while maintaining accurate configuration records.
- Deploy secure OT network designs and SCADA communication systems in alignment with cybersecurity standards, RMF compliance, NIST SP 800-82, and secure remote access for industrial controls.
- Produce engineering documentation, operational procedures, network layouts, and electrical schematics while coordinating with engineers, systems administrators, and cybersecurity teams to support system deployment and modernization.

What does a typical day look like for a Electrical Distribution OT Engineer?
- Design, configure, integrate, and maintain high-voltage SCADA and OT systems supporting electrical distribution networks from 600V through 230KV, ensuring reliable, safe, and continuous mission operations.
- Configure, program, test, and troubleshoot SEL relays, RTACs, PLCs, HMIs, Ignition, and OSI SCADA platforms while integrating DNP3, Modbus, OPC UA, mirrored bits, and other industrial communications protocols.
- Monitor real-time and historical operational data to identify system trends, diagnose faults, optimize electrical distribution performance, and implement corrective actions that improve system reliability and resiliency.
- Perform preventive maintenance, firmware upgrades, software patches, relay testing, calibration validation, and Omicron acceptance testing while documenting results and maintaining configuration management records.
- Implement secure OT network architectures and SCADA communications by supporting cybersecurity controls, RMF compliance, NIST SP 800-82 guidance, system accreditation activities, and secure remote communications for industrial control systems.
- Develop engineering documentation, operating procedures, network diagrams, and electrical schematics while collaborating with FRCS engineers, systems administrators, and cybersecurity personnel to deploy, sustain, and modernize electrical distribution control systems.
What qualifications do you look for?

- Familiarity with high-voltage SCADA and operational technology networking.
- Experience designing and operating electrical systems from 600V to 230KV with solid knowledge of electrical distribution infrastructure.
- Understanding of high-voltage electrical distribution operations and safety protocols.
- Hands-on experience configuring and integrating SEL relays, controls, and SEL RTACs.
- Proficiency with industrial control systems including Ignition software, SEL HMI, and OSI SCADA platforms.
- Experience in designing, developing, and deploying SCADA systems.
- Skilled in working with PLCs and HMIs from manufacturers including SEL, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Schneider Electric.
- Able to monitor and analyze real-time and historical data to detect anomalies and system trends.
- Experience applying software security updates, patches, and firmware upgrades to SEL devices and Ignition software.
- Familiarity with Facilities Related Controls System (FRCS), including associated protocols such as OPC UA, DNP3, Modbus, SEL, and mirrored bits.
- Experience establishing Modbus to DNP3 communication links for OT equipment.
- Knowledge of service, configuration, change, incident, and problem management processes.
- Experience testing and maintaining SEL relays, including documenting test results and validating calibration.
- Experience using Omicron testing equipment for protection system validation.
- Required certifications: Core Certification and Gold Certification from Inductive Automation.

- Experience developing policies and procedures for secure configuration and management of SCADA and electrical distribution OT systems.
- Background with Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Advanced Meter Reading (AMR), and utility metering systems.
- Work experience in Department of War operational technology environments.
- Experience designing and managing OT networks for SCADA and industrial control applications.
- Familiarity with 4G, 5G, and LTE wireless network configuration.
- Experience using SQL and Microsoft Server software.
- Experience deploying, securing, and accrediting Linux servers running Ubuntu.
- Ability to create and modify technical drawings and schematics using CAD and Visio.
- Experience maintaining cybersecurity defenses for SCADA systems in compliance with RMF and NIST SP 800-82.
- SEL-specific training or certifications.
- Programming skills in Python, SQL, Bash, or Java.
- Experience with databases including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, and MongoDB.
- Familiarity with Power BI for data visualization.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Expertise in AutoCAD.
- Security+ certification or equivalent knowledge.
- Network+ certification or equivalent knowledge.
