Responsibilities
- Evaluate intricate business challenges and assess the practicality of suggested system improvements and automation initiatives
- Gather and interpret data, analyze existing workflows, and determine user needs through stakeholder collaboration, communicating the impact of decisions clearly
- Bridge communication between business stakeholders and IT development teams, collaborating with subject matter experts to produce key project documentation such as PRDs, FSDs, and use cases
- Lead workshops and focus groups to identify solutions that maximize business value
- Independently manage key phases of the software development lifecycle, emphasizing validation of conceptual designs and creation of high-quality requirement deliverables
- Guide and mentor junior business analysts in best practices and project execution
- Analyze business and user needs for clarity, completeness, scope, and technical viability
- Translate high-level business requirements into detailed system and software functional specifications
- Specify system qualities, operational characteristics, external interfaces, constraints, business rules, and non-functional criteria
- Create system use cases that define expected functional behavior and act as subject matter expert during development
- Produce supplementary specifications for requirements not easily expressed in use cases
- Conduct requirements modeling using UML diagrams such as activity, sequence, and state diagrams to illustrate system behavior
- Author comprehensive software requirements specifications that serve as the authoritative guide for development teams
- Provide definitive insight into system behavior to assist test designers, solution architects, and data designers in creating accurate plans and models
- Represent the development team during user acceptance testing to clarify intended software functionality
- Utilize HPQC/ALM for managing and tracking requirements throughout the project lifecycle
- Maintain requirements traceability through the creation and maintenance of traceability matrices
- Participate in requirements triage to determine which requirements are prioritized for specific releases, including assessing dependencies and effort estimates
- Control changes to approved requirements using formal change management processes, evaluating change requests, supporting CCB meetings, and monitoring requirement status
- Produce post-iteration or post-release reports summarizing lessons learned regarding the effectiveness of requirements practices and resource utilization
- Serve as the main point of contact between technical teams, product teams, and end-users to align understanding of requirements and final deliverables
- Conduct user interviews to assess IT needs and formulate proposals for moderately complex systems
