Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is hiring an U.S. Director, Nuclear Energy

About the Role

This role leads the development and execution of a U.S. strategy for advancing nuclear energy as a key component of deep decarbonization. The director will manage policy advocacy, regulatory engagement, and partnerships with industry, government, and research institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of a national strategy for nuclear energy expansion
  • Develop policy positions on nuclear regulation, licensing, and federal support mechanisms
  • Engage with federal agencies including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Department of Energy
  • Advocate for legislative and regulatory reforms to accelerate advanced reactor deployment
  • Manage relationships with nuclear technology developers and research organizations
  • Coordinate input from technical experts to inform policy recommendations
  • Represent the organization at public forums, conferences, and stakeholder meetings
  • Supervise program staff and consultants working on nuclear initiatives
  • Monitor legislative developments in Congress related to nuclear energy funding and regulation
  • Build partnerships with environmental groups, labor organizations, and clean energy advocates
  • Oversee the development of white papers, regulatory comments, and policy briefs
  • Support international collaboration by aligning U.S. efforts with global nuclear initiatives
  • Identify barriers to nuclear deployment and propose actionable solutions
  • Track progress toward program goals and report to senior leadership
  • Ensure alignment of nuclear strategy with broader climate and equity objectives
  • Conduct outreach to state-level policymakers on nuclear energy opportunities
  • Evaluate economic and technical viability of emerging nuclear technologies
  • Facilitate dialogue between regulators and innovators to streamline approval processes
  • Promote public understanding of nuclear energy’s role in climate mitigation
  • Integrate equity considerations into nuclear energy policy development
  • Coordinate cross-program initiatives with clean energy systems and industrial decarbonization teams
  • Support fundraising by providing technical input for grant proposals
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of nuclear innovation trends and market dynamics
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and grant requirements
  • Foster a collaborative team culture grounded in inclusion and accountability
