AECOM is hiring a Traffic Monitoring Call Center/Surveillance/Dispatcher/Freeway Operator

Responsibilities

  • Monitor freeway conditions using CCTV, Road Ranger patrols, and traffic detection systems to identify, verify, and respond to traffic incidents, congestion, and travel time discrepancies.
  • Record all planned and unplanned traffic events and congestion levels in the SunGuide system and distribute updates via intelligent transportation systems, websites, and the FL511 platform.
  • Collaborate with control room personnel, law enforcement, and external agencies during incident response operations.
  • Coordinate with operations teams and inter-agency staff to maintain awareness of ongoing activities and ensure seamless communication across operations units.
  • Dispatch Road Ranger patrols promptly to assist stranded motorists, manage incidents, and support law enforcement; log all actions in SunGuide with accurate and clear documentation.
  • Respond to and manage wrong-way driver incidents according to established protocols.
  • Identify, verify, and report malfunctions in control room equipment such as computers, CCTV displays, and central systems, as well as field devices like CCTV cameras, vehicle detection sensors, dynamic message signs, and roadside units.
  • Oversee arterial traffic operations per defined procedures during times when the signal timing center is not active, coordinating any necessary signal changes through the on-call engineer.
  • Conduct daily inspections of intelligent transportation infrastructure including CCTV, DMS, traffic sensors, and video walls during morning shifts and initiate repair tickets for any identified failures.
  • Liaise with maintenance teams as required to resolve system or equipment issues.
  • Adhere to FDOT District 1 policies and procedures, particularly the TMC Operations SOP.
  • Meet specified time standards for confirming incidents, dispatching patrols, posting DMS messages, and updating the FL511 system as outlined in operational guidelines.
  • Publish detour routes through the FL511 system during traffic disruptions.
  • Execute all duties as defined in the District 1 TMC Operations SOP.
  • Support data collection for periodic reports, including travel speed, travel time, and incident summaries, as requested by the department.
  • Assist with SunGuide system configuration updates such as reference points and contact groups in compliance with SOPs.
  • Generate operational performance reports, track metrics, manage truck parking availability data, monitor wrong-way driver detection systems, ensure data quality in SunGuide, and support OTM, smart work zones, and other assigned systems.
  • Produce incident timelines, timestamp records, and visual documentation to support post-incident reviews for major events.
  • Coordinate with FDOT and FHP to dispatch appropriate Rapid Incident Scene Clearance vendors to significant incidents, log all actions and timestamps in SunGuide, and maintain the vendor rotation list.
  • Manage traffic events and congestion using SunGuide tools, controlling both backend systems and field devices such as detection stations, cameras, and message signs.
  • Notify emergency services of traffic incidents within the coverage area, assisting supervisors in alerting FHP, Road Ranger, local police, fire departments, and EMS as appropriate.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the department.
