Responsibilities
- Operate electromagnetic and ground-penetrating radar systems to detect, pinpoint, and document underground utilities such as water, sewer, gas, electrical, and telecommunications lines.
- Lead technical aspects of GPR surveys by choosing suitable antenna frequencies, configuring scan settings, and interpreting radar data.
- Mentor and train junior technicians in core utility locating techniques, GPR operation, equipment maintenance, and accurate marking and recordkeeping.
- Ensure precision of field equipment through regular calibration, on-site testing, and proper upkeep, particularly GPR units requiring environmental adjustments.
- Partner with field supervisors to refine training resources, troubleshooting protocols, and cross-training initiatives for multi-utility detection and emerging technologies.
- Stay current with advances in subsurface utility detection technology and apply new tools and methods to field operations and crew development.
