We are currently seeking a qualified Structural Steel Field Specialist to join our Construction team, based out of Leroy, SK. The Structural Steel Field Specialist is responsible for all field engineering discipline activities to support execution of the potash processing facility. The Structural Steel Field Specialist reports to the Technical Services Manager or Project Field Engineering Manager and is responsible for the organization and direction of field engineering personnel and activities relating to construction engineering, subcontracts, and engineering liaison to the design functional group. This role includes interpreting design drawings and specifications, supervising field verification of materials and providing technical direction to construction engineers and superintendents. The Field Specialist supports a broad range of construction engineering and design functions relating to multi-discipline engineering in an area or to a single discipline on the overall project. The Structural Steel Field Specialist executes the implementation of the quality activities of all scope or project assignments. This role coordinates the project quality program/plan activities associated with one or more functions in engineering, procurement, construction, testing, operations, commissioning, and project close-out. They will work mainly within the Integrated Construction Centre (ICC) platforms to oversee the management of technical queries, non-conformance reports, and other notices when necessary. They form the link between the Owner (BHP), Engineers of Record (HBJV), and the construction team. Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI), and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion, this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project. * Please note this position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living out allowance. This will be a camp position on 14 days on 7 days off rotation. Join us in this full time short-term role Duties and Responsibilities: - Complete all mandatory structural inspections for infrastructure within the defined scope, at a minimum. - Review structural steel–related submittals, including contractor project execution plans, quality plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and inspection records. - Perform field inspections of structural construction activities to verify compliance with requirements. - Issue quality incident reports as required. - Manage discipline‑specific documentation and processes, including: - Technical Queries (TQs) - Field Change Notices (FCNs) - Field Change Reports (FCRs) - Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) - Communicate structural design changes and field engineering changes to construction and engineering teams. - Ensure effective and efficient use of ICC platforms and systems for submitting queries, notices, and reports. - Review and verify installed structural quantities. - Participate in construction walk‑downs and confirm closure of punch list items. - Review and verify readiness of turnover documentation. - Confirm that all required maintenance and inspection activities for structural components are completed by the Contractor. - Participate in all training required by BHP. - Participate in site risk and control ownership activities, as required. - Generate reports related to structural engineering deliverables, execution progress, and turnover. - Adhere to and always demonstrate Jansen’s core values. - Manage day‑to‑day activities by prioritizing work in alignment with broader project objectives. - Effectively manage time and meet all required deadlines. - Civil/Concrete experience is an asset. - Perform additional duties as assigned.
