Chime is looking for a Staff Product Designer to join our Retirement team. In this role, you will partner with Product, Engineering, and Data to shape strategy and create a cohesive, high-trust retirement experience across both employer and employee journeys. Your focus will be on improving setup and account management, connecting payroll and retirement journeys, and designing flexible, scalable patterns.
What You'll Do
- Partner with Product Management to define customer problems, strategy, and measurable outcomes across activation, engagement, and retention.
- Collaborate with Data and Research to understand funnel drop-offs, behavior over time, and retention drivers.
- Drive the full design process for shipped experiences—scoping, prototyping, testing, and delivering from MVP to long-term improvements.
- Translate regulatory and tax-driven requirements into clear flows, content, and UI patterns that build trust.
- Craft compelling product narratives to align cross-functional stakeholders around problems, strategic options, and tradeoffs.
- Provide thoughtful critique and mentorship to design peers and help raise the quality bar across the organization.
- Champion the design system and contribute patterns and components that improve cohesion and quality.
- Use AI to move quickly from concept to customer-tested artifact, building high-fidelity prototypes that generate real signal faster.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in product design, with a portfolio showing end-to-end shipped work and the impact it drove.
- A high bar for craft across interaction design, information architecture, and visual design—especially for complex, form-heavy workflows.
- Demonstrable AI fluency in your design practice, with evidence of AI changing how you prototype, test, and ship.
- Comfort moving between design and code, whether shipping UI improvements directly, working closely in the codebase, or using AI-assisted tools.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and shaping messy inputs into clear goals, tradeoffs, and shipped outcomes.
- Experience building strong partnerships with Product, Engineering, and Data to prioritize, execute, and iterate.
- A systems thinker who designs solutions that scale beyond one-off screens and hold up across a product ecosystem.
- Ability to bring a clear point of view, engage in constructive feedback, and help teams align quickly by clarifying tradeoffs and driving decisions forward.
- A track record of leading multi-workstream initiatives across teams—setting direction, unblocking partners, and shipping measurable improvements.
Nice to Have
- Experience in regulated or high-trust domains like fintech, taxes, insurance, healthcare, or benefits and retirement.
- Comfortable tackling content design aspects to make complex concepts understandable.
- Experience contributing to growing a design system with components or patterns.
Team & Environment
You'll work in a cross-functional group partnering with Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing.
