Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy, vision, and long-term planning for the organization's design system, defining and refining foundational elements such as components, design tokens, interaction patterns, and visual standards.
- Ensure the design system supports diverse product surfaces, including core user interfaces, agent-facing workflows, enterprise templates, and integrated external systems.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to align on implementation details, technical tradeoffs, and architectural decisions that impact system consistency and scalability.
- Guide engineering and design teams on tooling, contribution processes, and Storybook integration to improve usability and maintainability of the design system.
- Establish governance frameworks, including review procedures and decision-making models, to manage contributions and evolution of the system.
- Act as the primary decision-maker for design system changes, providing guidance and approval on pattern adoption and standardization.
- Conduct design reviews and office hours to support feature teams in applying or extending system patterns appropriately.
- Determine when new designs should become global standards versus remaining localized solutions based on usage and scalability.
- Document design principles, component rationale, and usage guidelines to ensure knowledge is shared and decisions are transparent.
- Identify and resolve visual and functional inconsistencies, redundancy, and fragmentation across the product ecosystem.
- Drive improvements that enhance design quality while balancing development speed and creative flexibility.
- Promote system-first thinking across design, product, and engineering disciplines to improve cohesion and efficiency.
- Define clear workflows for contributing to and maintaining the design system to encourage broad adoption.
- Ensure the system evolves in alignment with product growth and technical capabilities.
- Maintain high standards for design craft and usability across all touchpoints.
