Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and manage data pipelines, models, and storage systems that unify cost and usage information from cloud providers, Kubernetes, AI services, observability tools, and other vendors into a reliable central repository.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Infrastructure, Product, and Finance teams to transform raw usage data into actionable insights, strategic recommendations, and operational playbooks that shape technical direction.
- Directly implement cost-saving measures by adjusting configurations in cloud services, workloads, and vendor setups, including rightsizing resources, optimizing storage tiers, reducing log output, and modifying service plans.
- Create internal tools, dashboards, alerts, and automated systems that empower teams to monitor their spending, detect inefficiencies, and measure progress toward cost-efficiency targets.
- Define and enforce cost-aware engineering standards by integrating efficient architecture patterns into infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD workflows, and code review practices.
- Work with financial planning teams to project future expenditures, assess the budgetary impact of new features or infrastructure changes, and align actual spending with forecasts.
- Lead long-term cost optimization programs across departments, guiding initiatives from initial problem identification through implementation and performance tracking.
- Conduct training sessions, reviews, and office hours to improve organizational understanding of cost data and promote cost-conscious decision-making in product and engineering workflows.
- Develop metrics and monitoring systems to evaluate the effectiveness of cost initiatives, measuring savings, return on investment, and impacts on system performance and reliability.
- Maintain expertise in cloud pricing models, vendor ecosystems, and FinOps methodologies, applying practical insights to improve internal systems, contracts, and architectural choices.
