Later is hiring a Staff Engineer (Campaign)

About the Role

Lead the technical direction of a core product platform serving a global user base. In this role, you'll take ownership of high-impact initiatives—from system design to deployment—ensuring our infrastructure remains robust, performant, and forward-looking.

What You’ll Do

  • Define and execute technical roadmaps that align with long-term product goals, balancing innovation with stability.
  • Design and refine full-stack systems using React, TypeScript, Node.js, and cloud-native technologies to support scale and reliability.
  • Champion code quality through rigorous testing, clean architecture, and resilient CI/CD pipelines.
  • Identify and mitigate system risks early, applying deep knowledge of security, performance, and distributed systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Design to translate complex requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Mentor engineers across teams, fostering a culture of learning, ownership, and technical excellence.
  • Explore emerging technologies—including AI-driven development tools—and integrate insights to improve developer velocity and system capabilities.
  • Advocate for best practices in observability, monitoring, and infrastructure management to ensure system health.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 7 years of hands-on software development experience delivering scalable, production-grade systems.
  • Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript for frontend development, with backend experience in Node.js.
  • Experience working with both SQL (MySQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) databases in high-throughput environments.
  • Proven track record in system architecture, API design, and cloud infrastructure—particularly on AWS.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code (YAML).
  • Deep understanding of security principles across application and infrastructure layers.
  • Experience guiding technical decisions without formal authority, and coaching engineers at all levels.
  • Knowledge of automated testing, deployment pipelines, and QA methodologies to ensure software integrity.

Preferred Background

  • Experience working on social media or content scheduling platforms.
  • Exposure to AI/ML applications in software development or product features.
  • Familiarity with tools like GitHub Copilot or Cursor.
  • Hands-on use of monitoring platforms such as DataDog.
  • Background in fast-moving, iterative engineering environments.

Our Culture

We value impact, curiosity, and ownership. We build with intention, think ahead, and adapt quickly. Collaboration and resilience are central to how we work—paired with honesty, empathy, and a drive to improve. You’ll thrive here if you’re self-motivated, technically rigorous, and passionate about growing both yourself and those around you.
