Laurel is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer (Digital Foot Print)

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code for backend components.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements, technical specifications, and success metrics, delivering high-quality software.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks and bugs, continuously improving performance, scalability, and security.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers, promoting a culture of learning and growth.
  • Stay current with industry trends and proactively suggest improvements and new features.
  • Implement automated testing and CI/CD pipelines for robust and reliable releases.
  • Work with Product and Customer Success teams to refine business requirements and system designs.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Engage with the product and users, offering input and opinions on how things should be done and why.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6+ years of professional backend software development experience.
  • Strong understanding of TypeScript.
  • Strong understanding of Node.js.
  • Strong understanding of messaging queues (e.g., AWS SQS).
  • Strong understanding of MongoDB.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to engage with customers and understand their needs.

Nice to Have

  • Full stack knowledge.
  • Experience with Python (Django, FastAPI, or Flask).
  • Familiarity with Airflow.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with NestJS.
  • Experience in AI.

Hybrid — Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York

  • Location: Hybrid in Los Angeles / San Francisco / New York, working Tuesday - Thursday in office. We will hire remote in the US / Canada for extraordinary candidates.
