About the Role
The role involves leading the development of perception systems and sensor technologies for robotics hardware, spanning research, design, prototyping, and testing, while also contributing to operational frameworks for production, quality assurance, and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and implementation of perception pipelines for robotic systems
- Design and integrate sensor suites including cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, and other modalities
- Develop calibration and synchronization methods across heterogeneous sensors
- Optimize sensor performance under real-world environmental conditions
- Collaborate with software and controls teams to ensure sensor data usability
- Conduct field testing and iterate on sensor configurations based on performance data
- Troubleshoot hardware-software interface issues in perception systems
- Create test protocols for sensor validation and verification
- Support the transition from prototype to production-ready sensor systems
- Define requirements for custom sensor hardware development
- Work closely with manufacturing partners on sensor integration and quality control
- Maintain documentation for sensor designs, test results, and system performance
- Evaluate emerging sensor technologies for potential adoption
- Ensure robustness of perception systems in dynamic and unstructured environments
- Contribute to safety and redundancy strategies for critical sensing functions
Nice to Have
- Master’s or PhD in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline
- Prior work on autonomous mobile robots or industrial automation systems
- Experience with FPGA or ASIC-based sensor processing
- Background in computer vision or machine learning for perception tasks
- Familiarity with functional safety standards in robotics or automotive domains
- Direct experience shipping commercial robotics products
