The Really Great Teacher Company is hiring a Specialized Online ESL Teacher for a remote role focused on students who need it most. You will provide tailored English instruction to blind, deaf, and deafblind children in Costa Rica, leveraging your expertise in special needs education and accessible teaching methods.
What You'll Do
- Provide one-on-one and small group online ESL instruction to blind, deaf, and deafblind children.
- Use adapted and accessible materials and teaching methods tailored to students' needs.
- Work directly with students in Costa Rica on a structured, part-time schedule.
What We're Looking For
- Native Spanish speaker with C1/C2 level fluency in English.
- Based in Central or South America.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher (relevant fields preferred).
- Accredited TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certification (120 hours or above).
- Specialized certification in Visual Impairment, Deaf Education, Deafblindness, or Special Needs.
- Minimum of 3 years of prior experience teaching English.
- Must provide a minimum of ten (10) hours of weekly availability.
- No criminal record.
Nice to Have
- Sign language proficiency — LSCo (Costa Rican Sign Language) or other national sign language.
- Certified Braille proficiency (Unified English Braille or equivalent).
- Deafblind communication methods: Tactile ASL, hand-over-hand guidance, object cues.
- Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.
- Post-graduate diploma or specialization in Inclusive or Special Education.
Technical Stack
- PC: Intel® Core™ i5 CPU @2.40GHz (4 CPUs) or better, 8GB RAM or greater.
- Stable fiber internet connection (20 Mbps upload/download) via LAN cable.
- Noise-cancelling headset and HD webcam (720p).
- UPS with 4-5 hours of battery life recommended.
- Quiet, well-lit teaching space.
