Responsibilities
- Design a comprehensive direct-to-device communications mission, covering satellite constellation layout, coverage planning, signal link analysis, and system-wide performance targets.
- Establish and manage high-level mission requirements, operational concepts, and cross-segment interfaces spanning space, ground, and user components for dual-use applications.
- Lead system-wide trade analyses for satellite orbits, spacecraft platforms, launch approaches, inter-satellite links, and spectrum use to balance performance, robustness, and cost.
- Define the architecture, specifications, and integration strategy for advanced communication payloads involving radio frequency, digital processing, and related subsystems to meet mission goals.
- Collaborate with spacecraft engineering and production teams to ensure low Earth orbit platforms meet mission, payload, and mass production requirements.
- Develop and maintain end-to-end mission performance models, including signal link budgets, network capacity forecasts, and coverage simulations.
- Coordinate with ground infrastructure, network operations, and product development teams to convert user service needs into system design and validation criteria.
- Support system integration, environmental testing, and in-orbit commissioning, including failure diagnosis and root-cause investigations at the constellation level.
- Contribute to long-term technology planning, proposal development, and engagements with government and commercial clients, clearly explaining architectural decisions and compromises.
- Promote rapid development cycles, mentor technical staff, and help define best practices in mission and systems engineering.
