Radiant is an innovative startup based in El Segundo, CA, pioneering the development of compact, transportable nuclear microreactors. Their inaugural reactor, Kaleidos, represents a groundbreaking 1-megawatt failsafe solution capable of operating continuously for five years without refueling. This portable nuclear power technology can effectively replace diesel generators and provide critical infrastructure support for diverse settings like hospitals, data centers, remote locations, and military installations. Leveraging contemporary software engineering, Radiant is strategically positioned to create safe, factory-manufactured microreactors utilizing proven, qualified materials. Established in 2020, the company anticipates testing its first reactor at Idaho National Laboratory next year, with initial customer deliveries projected for 2028. Radiant is actively recruiting a Software Engineering Manager specializing in Simulation to spearhead and develop the engineering team responsible for reactor physics modeling, thermal-hydraulics simulations, and Digital Twin development. The ideal candidate will scale a high-performance team while maintaining technical expertise, ensuring simulation infrastructure accelerates reactor system design, testing, and validation—ultimately expediting the company's commercialization trajectory. Responsibilities and Duties: - Construct, guide, and mentor simulation engineers developing thermal, hydraulic, and nuclear physics models - Direct technical architecture and implementation of simulation systems - Expand software infrastructure supporting Digital Twin simulation, visualization, and data processing - Define and own technical roadmap for thermal and safety analysis simulation - Establish best practices for simulation software development, code quality, and testing - Collaborate across engineering teams to enhance software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing capabilities - Manage team delivery of mission-critical internal simulation products - Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent Required Qualifications: - 7+ years professional software engineering experience in simulation, scientific computing, or physics-based modeling - 2+ years people management experience leading engineering teams - Strong programming background in Python, Rust, C#, or C/C++ - Proven ability to build and scale technical engineering teams - Expertise in simulation tools, physics-based modeling, and computational science - Proficiency with numerical solvers, visualization frameworks, and automated testing approaches - Comprehensive understanding of software engineering best practices - Balanced approach to hands-on technical contributions and team leadership - Bachelor's degree in physics, mechanical engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience Preferred Qualifications: - Advanced degree in related field - Experience managing computational modeling teams - Background in modern simulation frameworks and computational analysis tools - Successful cross-functional collaboration history - Strong communication and stakeholder management skills - Experience with Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or probabilistic modeling techniques Work Environment: - 100% onsite work at El Segundo headquarters - Flexibility for extended hours and weekend work as needed Total Compensation and Benefits: Comprehensive package including base salary, substantial equity grants, and extensive benefits: - Significant stock incentive plan - Full medical premium coverage - One Medical membership - Vision and dental insurance - Voluntary supplementary benefits - 8-weeks paid parental leave - Daily catered lunch - Flexible PTO policy - Team bonding events - Beautiful oceanside headquarters Equal opportunity employer.
