Responsibilities
- Develop a billing infrastructure capable of expanding from two to six countries with minimal code changes, relying on configuration-driven market onboarding.
- Implement core billing features including monthly and annual billing cycles, platform fees, jurisdiction-specific VAT handling, fee exemptions, and pro-rated refunds and renewals.
- Lead the dunning process for Adyen and Twikey, managing failure categorization, retry logic, settlement validation, partial payments, and compliance with regional legal requirements such as Dutch 14-day warnings and French mise en demeure.
- Create robust, observable, and secure integrations with payment, banking, and tax providers that are modular and easy to replace.
- Manage invoicing across multiple legal entities, including current and future subsidiaries, ensuring accurate financial tracking and compliance.
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and compliance teams to translate regulatory and accounting rules into reliable, testable software systems, with the authority to challenge impractical requirements.
- Establish high standards for engineering excellence in billing systems, emphasizing idempotency, accuracy, monitoring, and recovery—critical in a domain where errors directly impact revenue.
- Take ownership of incident response and system health, ensuring rapid resolution when billing issues arise, given their immediate business impact.
