Orca Bio is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build back-end services supporting a portfolio of data-centric clinical and analytic applications at Mayo Clinic. In this role, you will contribute to systems that enable clinical, research, and operational workflows, specifically for the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, while working within an Agile team to deliver reliable, well-structured solutions.
What You'll Do
- Design and build back-end services supporting data-centric clinical and analytic applications.
- Support applications and solutions serving Mayo Clinic’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.
- Ensure cloud-based micro-services adhere to uptime and accuracy targets, are resilient, and scale as data volumes increase.
- Work closely with data engineering, platform, and solutions teams to develop applications.
- Translate requirements into code by working with Product Owners, Product Managers, and Architects.
- Develop services around data warehousing, big data, cloud computing, business intelligence, analytics, and machine learning.
- Participate in DevOps, Agile, continuous development, and integration frameworks.
- Work on deployment automation and configuration management with tools like ADO, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Azure Pipelines, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
- Ensure all appropriate documentation of processes and source code is created and maintained.
- Participate in expert level troubleshooting and resolve problems through root cause analysis.
- Participate in code reviews and apply software engineering best practices.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field; Or an Associate’s degree with an additional 2 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum of internships and 1 year of experience, or 2 years of experience coding applications or services in a high-level language (C, C++, Golang, Java, C#, etc.).
- Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills.
- Strong technical aptitude for designing and implementing software solutions.
- Experience with modern application development frameworks.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle.
- Deep hands-on technical expertise and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Agile software development techniques.
- Willingness to learn and work collaboratively.
Nice to Have
- Ability to use a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud-based services.
- Experience with Google and Azure cloud environments.
- Experience in databases, analytics, big data systems, or business intelligence products.
- Experience with building high-performance, highly available, and scalable distributed systems.
- Experience developing software for healthcare-related industries.
