Responsibilities
- Produce and/or modify prototype PCBs, wiring looms and wiring harnesses.
- Test and commission prototypes, and pre-production machines.
- Assist with the development of, proofread commissioning and final test procedures.
- Commission and/or test newly assembled parts and equipment to written procedures.
- There may be occasional requests to perform test or commissioning work at customer or group company sites overseas.
- Lead continuous improvement or engineering changes required for test procedures.
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs in a structured way, including component level PCB repairs.
- Keep records of faults and report on trends, making suggestions for improvements.
- Upgrade modules or instruments with new hardware or software.
- Provide remote assistance to customers for fault identification and resolution where possible.
- Write procedural documents such as SOPs, Service Bulletins or Work Instructions.
- Raise problem reports relating to product design or quality issues or the documentation produced by the Project and technology development teams.
- Write Safe Standards of Work and Risk Assessment documents.
Requirements
- Versatile and flexible as work on prototype designs that may be complex in nature is required.
- Capable of trouble shooting day-to-day component, PCB and wiring problems without immediate recourse to supervisory staff.
- Lead machine and instrument test programmes and their documentation in a self-reliant manner.

- Ability to travel at short notice is important for this role.
- Provide emergency support to any customer overseas sites as required.
- Install new modules or instruments at customer’s premises.
- Provide training to customers where required.
- Co-ordinate return and repair logistics with other relevant staff within the production and supply chain departments.
- Co-ordinate spares requirements with the other relevant staff within the production and supply chain departments.
- Ensure own working environment and practices complies with all Legal and De Beers UK policy guidelines in relation to Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
