Orkes is hiring a Senior/Staff Software Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and architectural direction of core backend services with a focus on scalability, resilience, and high performance.
  • Solve complex challenges in distributed computing, shaping both immediate deliverables and long-term technical strategy.
  • Work closely with product, design, and engineering teams to build features that deliver significant business value.
  • Amplify team effectiveness through mentorship, improving technical practices and promoting engineering excellence.
  • Support and guide contributions to the open-source project, enhancing community involvement and platform adoption.
  • Assess and integrate new technologies, tools, and frameworks to maintain leadership in distributed systems innovation.
  • Define and uphold high standards in code quality, testing, monitoring, and system reliability.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure engineering efforts support broader business goals and customer requirements.
  • Keep current with evolving technologies and trends in software engineering and distributed computing.

Requirements

  • Proven experience developing backend systems using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement large-scale distributed and event-driven systems.
  • Strong command of REST and gRPC APIs, asynchronous messaging (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ), and cloud-native application design.
  • Experience leading major technical initiatives across multiple engineering teams from concept to deployment.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership to senior-level peers.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to align and influence technical decisions across teams.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and a systematic approach to problem-solving.

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure platforms including AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Familiarity with containerization using Docker and orchestration via Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of API design principles, including REST and GraphQL.
  • Background in event-driven system design and messaging technologies.
