UnitedHealth Group / Optum is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to drive application design, development, maintenance, and cloud modernization. In this role, you'll focus on performance monitoring, security, CI/CD enablement, and leveraging AI/AIOps for automation and observability, contributing to our mission of helping people live healthier lives.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain applications.
- Monitor, log, and analyze application performance and suggest alerting mechanisms.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and fix issues.
- Partner with the development team to suggest proactive enhancements.
- Develop and implement disaster recovery and data backup strategies.
- Collaborate with development teams to enable CI/CD pipelines.
- Conduct periodic access reviews and monitor user activity in production.
- Lead cloud migration and modernization initiatives for the application.
- Advise on best practices for cloud security, reliability, and scalability.
- Use AI tools to automate, optimize, and improve the software development lifecycle.
- Implement AIOps for analyzing logs and metrics to enhance observability.
- Participate in the development of prototypes and large-scale proof of concepts.
- Maintain documentation for current application functionalities and security controls.
- Identify opportunities to fine-tune and optimize Java-based applications.
- Work on PLM activities.
- Partner with stakeholders and dependent applications to create alerts for failures.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher).
- 8+ years of overall IT experience.
- Experience with APIs (REST and SOAP) utilizing Java/JEE and Spring Boot Framework.
- Experience with MySQL, MongoDB, RDBMS.
- Experience with Open Source frameworks, mainly Spring Boot, SoapUI, Postman tools.
- Experience with CI/CD Automation: Jenkins Pipeline, GitHub Actions, etc.
- Experience with DevOps/Cloud technologies: Docker Container, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure.
- Understanding of Firewall rules, Load Balancer (F5), API Gateway.
- Experience with messaging platforms such as IBM MQ, Kafka.
- Experience and solid understanding of security such as OAuth Tokens, SSL Certificates.

This is a hybrid role. Locations include U.S. (remote), Minneapolis, MN (office minimum 4 days/week), and the Washington, D.C. area (office minimum 4 days/week).
