Responsibilities
- Architect, code, and sustain C++ software for 5G NR upper-layer protocols including PDCP, eGTP-U/C, XnAP, NGAP, and N3 user-plane tunneling mechanisms.
- Develop PDCP modifications tailored for NTN environments, such as expanded sequence number ranges, adjusted reordering timers for high latency, lossless handover capabilities, and improved status reporting.
- Build and maintain eGTP-U data tunneling for N3 user-plane functions, covering GTP-U path control, echo and error handling, end-marker signaling, and QoS-to-DRB mapping in NTN contexts.
- Implement Xn interface signaling procedures via XnAP, including Xn setup, UE context transfer, handover preparation, resource cleanup, node configuration updates, and Xn-U tunnel management.
- Code and support NGAP procedures over N2, including initial UE messaging, UE context setup, modification, and release, handover workflows, paging, and AMF configuration updates.
- Design signaling enhancements for N2/N3 interfaces that accommodate NTN characteristics, such as processing NTN-specific information elements, satellite ephemeris coordination with AMF, and NTN-aware QoS handling.
- Work with core network and mobile operator teams to verify NGAP functionality against commercial and lab-based AMF implementations in real-world operator networks.
- Integrate and validate end-to-end connectivity across gNB-CU-CP, gNB-CU-UP, and core network components using Xn, N2, and N3 interfaces in a virtualized RAN architecture.
- Diagnose, trace, and resolve interface-level issues using packet analysis tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, and custom protocol dissectors.
- Partner with systems engineering to convert 3GPP Release 17/18 NR-NTN specifications (TS 38.413, TS 38.423, TS 29.281, TS 38.323) into software requirements and detailed design documents.
- Engage in peer code reviews, technical design discussions, and contribute to system documentation and architectural specifications.
- Leverage AI-powered coding tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Codex) across the development lifecycle—from interpreting specs to generating boilerplate, automating tests, and reviewing code—and help define best practices for AI-assisted development.
