Remote Remote (Global) Full-time USD 160,000 – 190,000 / year

Voltus is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Own core platform services and major migrations from proposal to production, including multi-month migrations of stateful, business-critical systems with no customer-visible downtime.
  • Manage containerized workloads and the delivery path, including orchestration, scheduling, GitOps-style deployments, progressive rollout and rollback, and service mesh.
  • Introduce Kubernetes expertise to a team currently using Nomad, and help determine the appropriate scheduler for each workload.
  • Architect and operate the AWS foundation, including multi-account structure, governance, IAM, cross-account access, VPC, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, DNS, certificates, and egress paths for dispatch traffic.
  • Treat identity, secrets, and encryption as first-class infrastructure, including workload identity, least privilege, SSO, OIDC, machine-to-machine credentials, Vault, and key ownership and rotation.
  • Operate stateful systems such as databases, message brokers, caches, time-series stores, and ensure backup coverage and tested restores.
  • Instrument for observability with distributed tracing, meaningful metrics, SLOs, and testing frameworks, consolidating monitoring into code-defined tools.
  • Build infrastructure as code and developer tooling using Terraform, GitHub, Buildkite, Docker, Nomad, and internal tools, including importing legacy infrastructure and detecting drift.
  • Help build infrastructure for AI, including guardrails for secure access and using AI tools to improve speed and documentation.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with the HashiCorp stack (Nomad, Consul, Vault).
  • Experience introducing Kubernetes to an organization that did not already run it, or operating it alongside another scheduler.
  • Experience running self-hosted CI and build tooling (Jenkins, ArgoCD, artifact repositories).
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry, or consolidating several overlapping monitoring tools into one coherent stack.
  • Experience testing event-driven workflows and with managed streaming platforms such as MSK.
  • Experience with AWS Organizations and Control Tower, service control policies, or leading an account restructuring or consolidation.
  • Experience owning an identity migration or SSO consolidation (Auth0, Okta, Cognito, Keycloak, or similar).
  • Experience building internal developer tooling or CLIs, and improving parity between local, dev, and production environments.
  • Ability to read Java or C++ well enough to debug and modify services in those languages, even if not preferred for writing.
  • Hands-on experience with AI developer tooling (Claude Code, MCP servers, agent workflows) or with running model infrastructure (e.g., AWS Bedrock).
  • Interest in the energy industry and the clean energy transition.

Benefits

  • Unlimited PTO for full-time employees.
  • Parental leave.
  • Comprehensive benefits package to promote health, wellness, and financial security.

Compensation

Base pay is $160,000-$190,000 annually, commensurate with experience, with a 10% annual bonus, and equity.
