Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture of a double-entry, multi-partner sub-ledger system that supports new payment methods, product expansions, and international partners.
- Design an integration layer for multiple sponsor banks that allows adding, replacing, or rerouting connections without modifying core product logic.
- Architect inline financial compliance checks—including OFAC, BSA/AML, and internal fraud models—with sub-second response times on every transaction.
- Transition from nightly batch reconciliation to continuous reconciliation with automated detection, categorization, and resolution of discrepancies.
- Redesign the disbursement engine as a ledger-based, idempotent, and rail-agnostic system that treats originations, returns, reversals, refunds, and recoveries as distinct events.
- Own the end-to-end platform for initiating, settling, reconciling, and recovering funds across ACH (standard and same-day), RTP, FedNow, domestic and international wires, and checks.
- Serve as the technical authority on U.S. payment systems, translating operational details into robust and maintainable system designs.
- Establish high standards for financial code correctness using property-based testing, detailed design documentation, simulation tools, and continuous reconciliation.
- Manage the engineering relationship with sponsor banks, including data formats, cutoff schedules, outage responses, exception handling, and abstraction layers for fast onboarding.
- Design the integration of sanctions screening into settlement workflows, ensure full traceability of funds, embed BSA/AML signals into real-time decisions, and implement regulatory requirements like Reg E, Reg CC, and NACHA rules as system behaviors.
- Collaborate with data science and trust & safety teams to incorporate real-time risk intelligence into every transaction decision.
- Present data-driven insights and tradeoffs to leadership on long-term strategy, build-vs-buy choices, new rail adoption, ledger evolution, and platform investments.
- Ensure operational excellence in financial systems through observability, incident response, production readiness, and comprehensive telemetry for on-call engineers.
