Responsibilities
- Establish and apply standardized design practices aligned with government-wide service delivery expectations
- Champion user needs by designing intuitive, inclusive, and efficient services
- Develop service maps, blueprints, and conceptual models to guide service development
- Analyze and illustrate user journeys, operational processes, and design challenges visually
- Address complex service issues comprehensively, from front-end interactions to back-end systems
- Present design concepts clearly to users and stakeholders for feedback and alignment
- Influence decision-making through compelling narrative and storytelling techniques
- Demonstrate familiarity with GDS/GOV.UK design standards and guidelines
- Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams by sharing design progress and engaging in research activities
- Promote user-centred design principles within the organization and across government networks
- Pursue personal growth by actively seeking learning and skill development opportunities
- Provide project guidance and support to peers within the service design practice
- Coach junior designers to strengthen their capabilities and professional growth
- Assist in probationary and yearly performance evaluations for less experienced team members
- Contribute to individual training and development planning in coordination with senior leadership
- Support business development efforts in collaboration with senior service design leads
- Assist in recruitment initiatives for permanent roles as needed

- Advocating for users and understanding user needs to design simple, effective, and accessible services
- Creating service maps, blueprints, and other concepts
- Mapping user journeys, processes, and visualising design problems
- Articulating and solving complex problems, from end to end and surface to core
- Communicating concepts to users and stakeholders
- Selling your ideas with persuasive storytelling
- Experience with the GDS/GOV.UK style guide and service design standard
- Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team by sharing design work, and participating in research
- Advocating for user-centred design and being an active part of the Design community within Methods and across government to share ideas and best practice, and proactively help and support each other
- Taking responsibility for your own learning and development and seek opportunities to improve your knowledge and experience
- Project support and guidance to other team members in the SD community of practice
- Coach and mentor more junior team members in the SD community of practice
- Support probation and annual reviews for more junior team members in the SD community of practice
- Support training and development plans alongside the Head of SD, and Deputy Director of UCD
- Bid support to Head of SD and Deputy Director of UCD
- Support permanent staff hiring when required
