Responsibilities
- Establish and apply consistent service design standards aligned with government-wide practices
- Champion user needs to create straightforward, inclusive, and efficient services
- Develop service maps, blueprints, and conceptual models to illustrate service components
- Analyze and visualize user pathways, operational processes, and design challenges
- Address complex service issues comprehensively, from surface interactions to backend systems
- Present design ideas clearly to users and stakeholders across levels
- Influence decisions through compelling narratives and storytelling techniques
- Apply knowledge of GDS/GOV.UK design principles and service standards in practice
- Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, sharing design progress and engaging in research
- Promote user-centred design within the organization and across government networks
- Take initiative for personal growth and actively pursue learning opportunities
- Provide project guidance and support to peers within the service design practice
- Mentor junior designers to strengthen team capabilities
- Assist in probationary and yearly performance evaluations for less experienced team members
- Collaborate on training initiatives with leadership in the service design community
- Contribute to proposal development for service design initiatives
- Support recruitment efforts for permanent roles when necessary
