Hospitable is hiring a Senior Product Engineer (Laravel - Remote)

Responsibilities

  • Deeply engage with the foundational codebase that integrates all product lines to develop new features, maintain existing ones, and build workflows that support customer growth.
  • Directly influence the operations of thousands of customers in the short-term rental industry.
  • Contribute to product strategy discussions, launch new core platform features from concept to deployment, and refine them based on customer feedback.
  • Collaborate with Ben, whose preferred fruit is Strawberry.
  • Apply software engineering expertise to create intuitive user experiences that are easy for customers to use and for other engineers to understand and maintain.
  • Work alongside product, sales, customer success, and engineering teams to design and deliver features that address the right challenges.
  • Operate within a monolithic codebase deployed on a Kubernetes-based infrastructure-as-code stack.
  • Implement and utilize observability tools to monitor and troubleshoot after deployment.
  • Identify and resolve performance issues and feature bugs that most significantly impact business operations and customer experience.
  • Refactor core platform code to enhance clarity, maintainability, and testability.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, primarily in backend technologies.
  • Extensive experience with Laravel, PHP 7+, MySQL, and testing pipelines in a production web application used by paying customers.
  • Complete commitment to Laravel as the primary framework; this is mandatory.
  • Practical experience with agentic coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, or similar in a real production codebase, not just side projects.
  • A focus on writing testable, maintainable, and intuitive code, with the mindset that code is a means to an end, avoiding unnecessary abstraction and prioritizing customer and business value.
  • Ability to anticipate non-obvious usage scenarios and understand ripple effects within complex systems.
  • Strong empathy for both customers and team members.
  • Exceptional communication skills, especially in writing, as the company is remote-first and fully distributed, with most communication via Slack and Notion.
  • Self-motivated and capable of making decisions in uncertain situations without needing external support to maintain momentum.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with queue or job-centric backends is advantageous.
  • Experience building production systems where data ingestion from third-party APIs is critical to the business is a significant plus.

Benefits

  • A supportive, transparent, and caring team environment where you are trusted rather than managed, with a focus on results and output.
  • Options for company equity through the $HOST token (RSUs), with a grant value of up to $76,026.50, allowing you to share in the company's long-term value.
  • Eligibility for up to an additional $380,895.00 per year in Performance Share Units (PSUs), which vest only upon achieving clearly defined business performance targets.
  • For US employees: healthcare options including EPO, PPO, and HSA, plus a 401(k) plan.
  • 35 days off per year, encouraged, including self-serve public holidays, and parental leave.
  • Complimentary mental health and emotional support with therapists available via Slack through Spill.
  • Virtual coins earned through a peer recognition platform, redeemable for gift cards, donations, or monetary rewards.
