Responsibilities
- Develop user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and production-ready design deliverables.
- Contribute to high-level product strategy by ensuring the right questions are asked and addressing key internal and external user needs.
- Lead and conduct design and user research as required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Managers, Engineers, Content Operations, SEO Strategists, Product Analysts, and fellow designers to move concepts from ideation to execution.
- Work closely with engineers and product managers to assess constraints and trade-offs.
- Lead design projects with input from other design team members to maintain design quality and consistency across the user experience.
- Understand the competitive landscape and stay informed about great user experiences, particularly in sports apps, sports media, and news-related products.
- Actively contribute to The Athletic’s Design System.
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in designing shipped product experiences for both web and native mobile applications.
- Strong visual and interaction design skills, as shown in an online portfolio or presentation.
- Subject matter expertise in sports and/or media.
- A solid understanding of what makes a great sports and/or media app, with ideas to improve the experience.
- Experience working directly with other designers on projects and indirectly to give and receive feedback.
- Experience collaborating with engineers, product managers, other cross-functional partners, and stakeholders with high quality and professionalism.
- Ability to manage time effectively, sometimes across multiple projects.
- Expert-level Figma skills and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Hands-on experience using AI to develop concepts and live experiences.
- Experience with prototyping and animation to explore and communicate design solutions.
- Eagerness to try new things, innovate, and learn, with a willingness to learn from mistakes.
- Enthusiasm for being part of a multidisciplinary design studio and a collaborative design process.

Compensation
The annual base salary range for this role is $135,000.00 - $155,000.00 USD. Total compensation may include variable pay such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
