Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and maintain Oracle database code, including SQL and PL/SQL (procedures, packages, functions).
- Analyze and improve existing database designs and legacy implementations, often created outside the DBA team.
- Work closely with application developers to review, optimise, and stabilise database interactions.
- Investigate and resolve performance, data integrity, and reliability issues across Oracle and PostgreSQL environments.
- Support and improve monitoring, alerting, and operational visibility of database systems.
- Contribute to the gradual standardisation of database practices, coding guidelines, and tooling.
- Participate in ad‑hoc projects and scripts, helping turn tactical solutions into more maintainable ones where possible.
- Assist with PostgreSQL workloads, as the platform adoption grows.
- Document findings, improvements, and technical decisions to support knowledge sharing within the team.
Requirements
- Strong, hands‑on experience with Oracle Database.
- Excellent SQL and PL/SQL skills, including troubleshooting and performance tuning.
- Experience in working with existing and legacy database systems.
- Understanding of how applications interact with databases in real‑world environments.
- Comfort operating in setups with shared or evolving ownership.
- Solid problem‑solving skills and a pragmatic, improvement‑driven mindset.
- Ability to work well in close collaboration with DBAs, developers, and other technical teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with PostgreSQL.
- Exposure to GCP and managed database services.
- Familiarity with database migrations or refactoring efforts.
- Scripting or automation skills (e.g. Python, Bash).
- Basic knowledge of MS SQL Server.
