The Athletic Media Company is hiring a Senior Manager, Video Productions Operations (Remote)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a team of production managers and video editors, maintaining video production standards across all shows.
  • Drive podcast video strategy on YouTube, Apple, and other platforms to support audience growth and meet key performance indicators.
  • Lead video content ideation to encourage a video-first approach within the team.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders at The Athletic and The New York Times, as well as external distribution clients, to ensure video products meet required specifications.
  • Source and manage freelance editors and external production partners, handling contracts and coordinating team needs and schedules.
  • Provide technical support to executive producers and producers on the Series and Specials team.
  • Oversee training and development for executive producers and producers in video editing by sourcing training tools, hosting regular office hours, and evaluating progress.
  • Contribute to sport vertical goals and manage the team effectively toward those goals, with flexibility in how goals are achieved.
  • Offer ideas for a vertical's yearly forward-looking coverage plan.
  • Contribute meaningfully to the creative process while knowing when to step back and let the executive producer lead.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to execute brand partnerships.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in video production.
  • Excellent line management and leadership capabilities.
  • Understanding of all video platforms and best practices.
  • Ability to ingest, consolidate, contextualize, and communicate complex information.
  • Excellent management and presentation skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of sports and news.
  • Ability to manage high-profile journalists under extreme time pressure.
  • High level of professionalism; organized, driven, and motivated with excellent follow-up.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Creative and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep understanding of sports with fluency in how topics are covered and discussed by fans.
  • Ear for high-quality creative output that resonates with listeners.
  • Excellent coaching skills and ability to delegate effectively.
  • Ability to execute in the short term while planning long term.

Nice to Have

  • Strong video editing skills highly desirable.

This is a remote-based position in the United States or Canada.
