About the Role
This role is responsible for leading key accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting the growth of financial systems in a high-impact nonprofit environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes with accuracy and timeliness
- Oversee preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage and improve general ledger structure and chart of accounts
- Collaborate with audit teams to ensure smooth external and internal audits
- Develop and document accounting policies and procedures
- Supervise accounting staff and provide ongoing training and development
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and grant-specific financial regulations
- Support the implementation and optimization of accounting software systems
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams on financial aspects of program delivery
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and recommend improvements
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes
- Monitor internal controls and recommend enhancements
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes
- Track and report on restricted and unrestricted funding
- Ensure proper accounting treatment for grants and donor-restricted funds
- Lead special financial projects as needed
- Maintain strong relationships with external partners, including auditors and banks
- Ensure timely filing of financial reports and tax documentation
- Support financial due diligence for new initiatives
- Promote a culture of accountability and precision in financial operations
