Canva is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer - Agent Tools Interop (AU remote)

About the Role

The role involves developing scalable machine learning solutions to improve how automated agents interact with design and collaboration tools, focusing on robustness, integration, and real-world performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement machine learning models for agent behavior and tool integration
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align AI capabilities with product goals
  • Optimize model performance and inference efficiency in production environments
  • Develop APIs and interfaces that enable agent interoperability
  • Monitor and troubleshoot model behavior in live systems
  • Contribute to data pipeline architecture for training and evaluation
  • Ensure models meet reliability and scalability requirements
  • Work with product teams to define agent functionality requirements
  • Refine agent decision-making logic based on user feedback
  • Support deployment and A/B testing of new agent features
  • Maintain documentation for models and integration workflows
  • Participate in code reviews and system design discussions
  • Identify opportunities to improve agent accuracy and responsiveness
  • Integrate third-party tools and services into the agent ecosystem
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and security standards
  • Stay current with advancements in agent-based AI systems
  • Mentor junior engineers on best practices in machine learning
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps for agent tooling
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in distributed agent environments
  • Improve model interpretability for debugging agent actions

Nice to Have

  • Master’s or PhD in a relevant technical discipline
  • Experience with multi-agent systems or reinforcement learning
  • Contributions to open-source machine learning projects
  • Prior work on tool-using AI agents
  • Experience in design or creative software platforms
  • Knowledge of large language models and their applications
  • Familiarity with edge computing for agent deployment
