About the Role
The Senior Global Director of Country Operations will lead and coordinate operational performance across multiple country programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, operational standards, and donor requirements. This role requires strategic oversight, cross-functional leadership, and deep experience in managing complex field operations in low-resource settings.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise country operations teams across diverse geographic regions
- Ensure consistent implementation of operational policies and procedures
- Oversee budget planning and financial accountability for country programs
- Monitor program performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Serve as primary point of contact for country directors on operational matters
- Develop and enforce compliance with legal, regulatory, and donor requirements
- Collaborate with central functions to strengthen systems and processes
- Lead crisis response and contingency planning for operational disruptions
- Design and implement capacity-building strategies for country teams
- Evaluate risks and ensure mitigation plans are in place
- Coordinate cross-country knowledge sharing and best practices
- Support recruitment and development of senior country staff
- Ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy across operations
- Manage relationships with external partners and local stakeholders
- Drive adoption of technology and digital tools in field operations
- Oversee procurement and supply chain management in country contexts
- Lead internal and external audits for country programs
- Ensure adherence to safeguarding and ethical conduct standards
- Optimize operational efficiency while maintaining program quality
- Advocate for operational needs at the executive level
Nice to Have
- Advanced degree in public administration, business, or related field
- Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa or South Asia
- Prior role in a remote-first or decentralized organization
- Familiarity with mobile money or cash transfer programs
- Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation frameworks
- Experience with ERP or financial management systems
- Background in nonprofit or non-governmental sector
- Certification in project or operations management
- Understanding of local governance structures
- Prior work with government counterparts
